Please someone help me... I think I may have an alchohol problem. I am 31 years old and have been drinking since I was 12 years old. It has been getting progressively worse and I have gotten to the point where I am embarrassed about what I could have done during one of my drunken episodes. I guess I use alchohol to help me socialise as I don't have a lot of self esteem but it is turning me into someone I don't want to be but I can't stop. I only drink on the weekend but then I will drink continuously without sleeping and it is beginning to affect my relationship with the rest of the family. Where I live there is no AA programmes, no therapists... I don't know where to turn to - I NEED HELP!

Why not therapists?

I have thought about therapy but unfortunately at the moment it is not an option. The nearest therapist to me is about an hours drive away from me and practically, I cannot make that trip everyday. Besides, I don't think that at this point I am ready to have face to face discussions with strangers about my life - I find it hard enough to discuss this with people close to me.

Hi Kofibug,
And, welcome to our community.
I cannot imagine where you live that there are no AA meetings and no therapists. Are you really certain there are no AA meetings?
It seems to me that a one hour drive might be worth the effort, both for psychotherapy and for AA meetings.
Of course, we want you to be here whether you have those things or not.
How did it come about that you started drinking at 12 years old?

There are several AA groups etc on the web. Also other things like Rational Recovery.. Life ring etc... sober Circle.. Sober Village. Most of those except RR have online meetings. Life ring is not 12 step or not.. it is a hodge podge of anything that you feel works for you. Check it out. Some are AA.. Some are not... In life ring you look at a lot of things and pick and choose or combine to find what works for you....
Hope it was ok to post the names of these places.. Promise I have been going there for years and they can be helpful and are not scams.. they have forums and chat rooms , books too... but.....
I think EAA has online meetings 4 or five times a day. The big Book is also available on line at AA.org..... For Free to read. But I suggest life ring .. that way you will be exposed to several things... I think the add is Unhooked.com.....
If I can help in any way let me know... I have a whole list of sites...
