Hi, one of my favorites is Baby Of Mine. I think it was an original Disney soundtrack from Dumbo.
Baby of Mine
Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine
Little one, when you play
Pay no heed what they say
Let your eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine
If they knew all about you
They'd end up loving you too
All the same people who scold you
What they'd give just for the right to hold you
From your head down to your toes
You're not much, goodness knows
But you're so precious to me
Sweet as can be, baby of mine.

Hi OCDmom,
I can identify with 2 songs: "Rainy Days and Mondays" by the Carpenters, and "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas. If you want to see the lyrics, I can go find it for you.
Thanks.
p.s. I'm not familiar with Baby of Mine--can you hum a few bars? ;-))

Wow, I love that song by The Carpenters too, and most of their other songs as well. Bette Midler sang a version of "Baby Of Mine" maybe you can find it in youtube.com. It's really beautiful.

My favorite song is "I Believe I Can Fly" by R Kelly. I like the dumbo song to, it sounds like it would be cute.
I Believe I Can Fly
By R Kelly
I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I'm leaning on the everlasting arms
If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
See I was on the verge of breaking down
Sometimes silence can seem so loud
There are miracles in life I must achieve
But first I know it starts inside of me, oh
If I can see it, then I can be it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
Hey, cuz I believe in me, oh
If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothign to it
Hey, if I just spread my wings
I can fly
I can fly
I can fly, hey
If I just spread my wings
I can fly
Fly-eye-eye

Hi OCDmom,
I'll check out youtube and see if I can find that song. Thanks!
I did find the words to Rainy Days... and also the Kansas song....
Rainy Days and Mondays
by the Carpenters
Talkin' to myself and feelin' old
Sometimes I'd like to quit, nothing ever seems to fit
Hangin' around, nothing to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
What I've got they used to call the blues
Nothin' is really wrong, feelin' like I don't belong
Walkin' around, some kind of lonely clown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you
Nice to know somebody loves me
Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me
What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out, we know what it's all about
Hangin' around, nothing to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me
What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out, we know what it's all about
Hangin' around, nothing to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
Dust In the Wind
by Kansas
I close my eyes,
Only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams,
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind,
All they are is dust in the wind
Same old song,
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do,
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind,
All we are is dust in the wind
Don't hang on,
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away,
And all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind,
All we are is dust in the wind
(All we are is dust in the wind)
Dust in the wind,
(Everything is dust in the wind)
Everything is dust in the wind

Hey OCDmom,
That Baby of Mine song is just too sad! Don't think I'll listen to it again soon!
Hey malign,
A lot of the Carpenter's songs have that same effect on me when I'm sad, can't really listen to them either. But, somehow when I sing with the song, it tends to make me feel a little better, probably because I can relate to the words, especially the Rainy Days song. Dust in the Wind was also used in the Highlander tv series when the Highlander's long time girlfriend dies--yes, it's also a sad song, but I love the music.
Hi renol,
I like "I believe I can fly" only when I'm in a good mood already! Go figure!--but don't read into that (get enuf of that in therapy!).
thanks.

Pink's "Don't let me get me" isn't really a favorite of mine, but I sure can relate to the words some days....
and you're correct OCDMom - "Baby Mine" is from the Dumbo soundtrack. Here's the info on it: (from this web site: http://disney-lyrics.us/dumbo/Baby-Mine.php)

I sing "Baby Of Mine" to my baby girl (she's 2) sometimes. It's one of her favorite songs too.

Hi all,
When my children were babies I used to sing commercials to them, and nursery rhymes as well. Now, my daughter is about to give birth and I wonder what I, as grandpa, will sing??? :D
By the way, I am back.

Hi Alan,
Rhetorical question? but I'm answering anyway (sorry)!
"patty cake" is a good one that all the babies I babysat really love. "twinkle twinkle little star" is another one. (Gotta do the hand motions to the song or it's not fun.) Yes, the classics; they never seem to fail.
Commercials? what commercials did you sing to your kids? I can't think of anything current that would be a nursery-rhyme equivalent.
I think most of the songs from Disney movies would work, tho' I can't remember any right off the bat, sorry.
And, glad you're back Allan. I missed you! :)

Hi everyone and sing along:
If all of the rain drops were lemon drops and gum drops,
oh what a world this would be,
I would sit out side with my mouth open wide
(now open your mouths) and "ahhhhhh."
I guess I'm a kid at heart. I still love it and as we wait for our first grandchild to be born, I am trying to remember more.:D

"Baby of Mine" is still a sad song to me 'cuz I see that video everytime I think about it! I couldn't sing it to a baby w/o crying!
I just remembered I have another favorite song, the Superman song that is also kind of sad but beautiful:
(maybe not for kids, but still a personal favorite about being accepted for one's self and not just for who people want you to be, to put it simply)
Superman (It's Not Easy)
by Five for Fighting
I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naive
I'm just out to find
The better part of me
I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane
I'm more than some pretty face beside a train
And it's not easy to be me
I wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
'Bout a home I'll never see
It may sound absurd but don't be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed but won't you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream?
And it's not easy to be me
Up up and away away from me
Well it's all right
You can all sleep sound tonight
I'm not crazy or anything
I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naive
Men weren't meant to ride
With clouds between their knees
I'm only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
Only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me
Inside of me, inside of me, yeah
Inside of me, inside of me
I'm only a man in a funny red sheet
I'm only a man looking for a dream
I'm only man in a funny red sheet
And it's not easy, it's not easy to be me

For Alan,
when my babies were small we got a set of Disney Kids Sing-Along songs and kept the tapes in the car. (yes, this was before CDs were the thing and cassettes were still very prevalent for car audio.... guess I'm dating myself just a little!) Everyone would sing along with everything, and it was great fun. We even learned a few new songs to sing, and some days we'd sing without the tapes.
Also, Itsy Bitsy Spider was fun too, especially when you have the "spider" (your fingers) crawl up the kid's belly or back in place of the water spout!!
congrats on the new grandbaby!

Hi smallstar,
I found the lyrics to your Wildflowers song on a website called Allspirit (http://allspirit.co.uk/index.html). I also listened to it on another site; first time I've heard it and I really like the words and the music.
Check out that Allspirit website. It has "spiritual unfoldment, poetry, writings, quotations, song lyrics and sacred texts"; you may enjoy it.
Hey Allan, I found a site with lots of nursery rhymes and lullabies. It also has a grandparent's page! (http://www.nurseryrhymes4u.com/) Congrats on your grandbaby!
Wildflowers
by Tom Petty
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel free
Run away, find you a lover
Go away somewhere bright and new
I have seen no other
Who compares with you
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free
Run away, go find a lover
Run away, let your heart be your guide
You deserve the deepest of cover
You belong in that home by and by
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worry
You belong somewhere you feel free
You belong somewhere you feel free

My favorite is by Shenandoah
I want to be loved like that
Natalie Wood gave her heart to James Dean
High school rebel and a beauty queen
Standing together in an angry world
One boy fighting for one girl
CHORUS
I want to be loved like that
I want to be loved like that
A promise you can't take back
If you're gonna love me
I want to be loved like that
Daddy never gave Momma a diamond ring
Momma never worried for anything
What he gave her came from the heart
A bond that was never torn apart
REPEAT CHORUS
An old man kneeling all alone
Plants his flowers in a garden of stone
For seven years now she's been gone
And his devotion is still going strong
REPEAT CHORUS

My favorite song is "wish you were here" by Pink Floyd.
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

"Dubliners Scorn Not His Simplicity lyrics"
See the child
With the golden hair
But eyes that show the emptiness inside
Do we know
Can we understand just how he feels
Or have we really tried
See him now
As he stands alone
And watches children play a children's game
Simple child
He looks almost like the others
Yet they know he's not the same
Chorus:
Scorn not his simplicity
But rather try to love him all the more
Scorn not his simplicity
Oh no
Oh no
See him stare
Not recognizing the kind face
That only yesterday he loved
The loving face
Of a mother who can't understand what she's been guilty of
How she cried tears of happiness
The day the doctor told her it's a boy
Now she cries tears of helplessness
And thinks of all the things he can't enjoy
Chorus
Only he knows how to face the future hopefully
Surrounded by despair
He won't ask for your pity or your sympathy
But surely you should care
Chorus

Yes, "Tears in Heaven" was a beautiful, sad and moving song.
I love music and will listen to just about anything except for hard rock and super twangy country. My favorite music are emotional kinds of songs, soft and gentle on the ears. The older I get the more I like classical, but not the super opera-y type of stuff. I think I mentioned before that I adore Josh Groban's music. I could write pages about that man's voice...
Very favorite song? Probably "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel. Beautiful song. Beautiful lyrics.

Hi MsCat
You know when I posted about this song originally, I wanted to ask you to listen to it as I knew about your son (from other posts), but I was afraid it would upset you too much. I really hope that it doesn't disturb you too much. To me the words come from a person who really knows what it feels like, and that can be comforting.
"Scorn not his Simplicity" is a song written by the Irish songwriter Phil Coulter.
The Song has been performed by several Irish musicians.
" History of the song
Phil Coulter's first son was born with Down's syndrome, several months later he wrote the song Scorn not his Simplicity about his experiences with his son's disorder. He first played the song to Luke Kelly. Because of the personal essence of the song Luke Kelly felt that the song should not be sung except for special occasions, and not on every performance."
Luke Kelly who sang that version of the song, died a number of years ago from a brain tumor. He was part of a group called The Dubliners. I have a cd called "The Best of Luke Kelly" and the song is on there. I bought it here in Ireland a number of years ago. I found the album for you on Amazon, you can download or buy the album (Too too expensive to buy - can't believe the price they are charging). You can also just download the individual track if you like.

There is another version by Sinéad O'Connor if you want to check that one out on you-tube, but personally I prefer Luke Kelly's version.

Thank you, goose for this information. I actually did start to do a little research regarding luke Kelly. I knew he had died, and the song was about a child with DS. Now that I know the album's name , i'll try and hunt it down here in the states .Amazon was where I had seen the Dubliners Cd's . Maybe ebay is anther way to look. I like the Luke Kelly version , his voice is amazing. Everytime i think of this song I get goosebumps. Then i'll listen to it and tears still come streaming down my face. But it is not in a bad way, it is because it touches me. ANd I feel the powerful message in the music and lyrics. AND I can relate to the song on a very personal, emotional, parental, way. Once I have the song, I am going to share it with my sons High School teacher. She has been teaching special needs kids for years. I am certain the song will have a impact on her.
I have a new blog posted just yesterday. I have a couple little pictures too. my son is there. The golden haired boy.

I remember a song by America. Do you know this?
Mscat, Suzie. Mscat Sam. Do the jitterbug down in Mscatland and they shimmy. Sue is so skinny....
And they whirl and they twirl in a tango. Singing and jingling the jango. Floating like the heavens above. Looks like Mscat love....:p
:D so cute OCDmom .Thanks for bringing a smile to my face today .

Hi jessicajane1925
A woman with my own taste! I love Meat Loaf and have been to see him Three times over here in the UK. My favorite is Paradise by the dashboard light. I must know all his songs off by heart?
