I recently discovered what the name of my problem was. I thought for the longest time that I was just the odd one out, the weird girl who pulled her hair out but I found that I am not.
It is the uncontrollable urge to pull hair from different parts of the body. It has only recently been classified as a mental disorder and so not much research has been done on the subject as it only affects 1 to 3.4 percent of the population. Sadly I can't afford to get the help I need, and I can't change my brain chemistry haha.
I guess I just feel sort of alone, and I don't know what to do. I don't want to end up bald, and its really embarrasing. Any advice? Anybody else going through the same thing?

I wouldn't feel lonely if I were you, I do in general, but not about the hairpulling thing. That's the only thing we all have in common, I pull my eyelashes, and literally their all gone. It's especially annoying when people ask me about it, do you have people like that? I just ignore them, I have a boyfriend and he's never noticed cause i use eyeliner, I'm dreading the day he notices'...
There are lots of people who pull their hair uncontrollably. Not sure if you've read Dr. Schwartz's blog from a few years back, "It's Enough To Make You Want To Pull Your Hair Out (http://www.mentalhelp.net/poc/view_doc.php?type=weblog&id=118&wlid=5&cn=114#wl5773)", but if you've not, I suggest that you do. There are *many* comments attached from other people who also pull on their hair.

Not trying to sound rude or anything, but I don't think reading other peoples tales will help with my sad one.

Cady, Mark was only trying to help, and it's not other people's tales, it's people's advice! You shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, so to speak!

haha, people check this thing so much...the accuracy in responses is intense.
Paula why are you on mental help community?
Cady,
I tend to think you're wrong about the utility of reading other's stories. Doing so has a normalizing effect on many people who before learning that they are not the only people who do this sort of thing felt like they were isolated and crazy. Reading about how other people struggle with the same issue makes it more normal of an experience to go through, which for many people has the effect of making it a more tolerable experience. Few people like feeling they are alone in the world.

Well stop acting like a dick! then.
Hows about you two stop speaking rudely to one another, huh? There isn't need for it. Both of you are here because this place fulfills a need - which means both of you are desirous of support. So stop antagonizing each other and try to find ways to support one another.

I'm on this site, trying to get my life back! Lets say, I had a close encounter with my friend called death, last July. But he wouldn't accept my pending friendship. So it looks like I'll be around for a while longer! If you get my drift!

You don't have to tell me? I went there.
Somehow, I don't think my time is ready yet! Not for the want of trying though!
This is what has sent me feeling just like you. Don't trust anyone! When you've been shit on, the amount of times that I have, Then you'll understand! And for what! Trying to be nice to people, doing all you can for anyone. And when it's your turn to ask the favour, where is anyone? No where to be seen!
I've learnt a lesson though! Look after number one. Coz no one else will!
Cady, don't trust anyone! Not even your best friend. When shove comes to shove, they won't be bothered about you, no! All's they'll think about is there selve's. Believe me. Don't make the mistake that I made and try and be nice to everyone, Coz it dunt work.
Do you know, I alway's said that when I die, I'm gonna come back as a bird! Do you know why? Coz I'm gonna shit on all them, that have shit on me! Ha! Honest!
Paula;)

I was in Perryville on vaca for labor day. wooo.ha, and no internet down there. You do anything good on this day off?
paula
09-02-2008, 11:48 AM
What day off! What is labor day? Don't forget, I live in the UK. we had a Bank Holiday last Monday 25 August. I hate them day's. Bank Holiday's. Every where is shut. The shop's, supermarket's, banks, stores, everything. It reminds me of a Sunday. Stores, shops only open 10.00am/4.00pm on a Sunday in the UK. They call it the Sabbath day, A day of rest! Who are they trying to kid!
You know what they say don't you? No rest for the wicked, and the good don't want none! I must of been a right evil b------, in the last world, I'll tell you! Ha!
It's all work and no play! What do you say!:p
cady1307
09-02-2008, 04:28 PM
UK? whoa nah I didn't know that.
I do live by three simple rules in life 1. The party starts after 4:00, 2. It's all good and 3. ALWAYS deny it.
haha. Number 3 comes in handy ; )
Ah are you an all time partier like myself Paula? I think we have more in common than I think. haha!

I keep thinking about how jealous I am of you that you DONT live in america...
My friends Rachel and Danny always say how we hate america and are moving to Europe when we grow up.
paula
09-04-2008, 02:23 AM
Why do you hate America so much? There's plenty that I know of, that would love to pay a visit to America.
Must admit though, It's a bit scary isn't it. What I mean is: All the shooting's and drug's.
Where exactly would you like to live?
I'm quite happy living here in the UK. Apart from the crappy weather! We don't really get much of a summer over here. Not bad though! Put it this way, you can still walk around without your coat on, up to now. Not to bad, to say were in September.
Hey! If you ever want a holiday over here, you can alway's stay at mine. I have my own house and you'd be welcome. All's you'd have to pay for is your flight's and your spending money while you was here. The offer's here if you want it.

That'd be incredibly awesome, if I ever come into money at all i'll take you up on that offer.
It's not so much I hate America, but Americans for the most part, I mean we're known for fast food and our bad eating habits...SUPER! I just need out of this country I've had enought problems here. I live in North County, MO, yeah its known for shootings and drugs and all sorts of goodness...haha.
UK is the exact spot I want to be.

Hm not real sure, still looking into it, thinking of Liverpool, New castle upon-tyne, or Leeds. But no definite plans.
paula
09-05-2008, 06:27 AM
Well I live not far from Liverpool. About 25mins drive away. My sister married to a scouser. The only thing wrong with scouser's is, they think there right all the time even though there wrong!
Why Newcastle? There's nowt there! I can understand Leeds. I'm not to far from there as well! Good night out in Leeds. Plenty of partying going on. You can rock the night away, there. and I mean all night! Open 24/7. Don't do bad where I live. Pub's & Club's are open till 5am in the morning. When the club's close at 5am, then you only have to go over the road and the pubs open there where you can scran summit to eat. Even though you might look like death warmed up Ha!
I've posted you a privvy message aswell!

You've got Buckingham Palace, the place of of Queen, Kensington Palace, Trafalgar Square, Madam Tussaud's the wax museum, Althorp- the Ancestral home and rest place of Princess Dianna, 10 Downing St, London Bridge, Tower of London, Westminister Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Big ben the famious clock, and I could go on & on & on.
I live about 3hrs away from London, and that's travelling by train. By car it's about 7hrs away from where I live.

So we are indeed looking at the next Vincent Vangoff. Good luck to you. Wish I had the ability to do art? Like drawing myself, but not to the extreme of going into detail! Don't know how to?
I just doodle, like you do when your a kid. It's simple and it's free!
I'm qiet into History. Love learning about the good old day's. Also love visiting Museum's and Grave yard's. Call me morbid if you want but I'm facinated by it! I just go into a world of my own! I'm always reminiscing anyway. alway's a thousand thought's away. No wonder I am like I am and no comment's, mind you. Ha!
